Position : Construction Manager / Site Manager

Note : The opportunity exists in the company for the right candidate, based on performance and potential,  to be fast tracked to a top management position as Contracts Manager / Director.


  • A completed relevant Diploma and or Degree in the civils Built Environment (B.Sc / Btech / Ndip)

  • Registration as a Professional Construction Manager (Pr.CM) with the SACPCMP, or alternatively to be shortly eligible for such registration.

  • Minimum of 10 (ten) years relevant experience in the civil construction industry with at least 5 (five) years experience as a Construction Manager or Site Manager (ex Site Agent) with proven track record in the management of large civil projects. (Roads, Bridges, Pipelines, structures etc.)

  • Relevant training and or qualifications in related fields (eg. Project management, contract law, S.H.E.) will be an advantage.

  • Experience in Buildsmart, CCS Candy, Microsoft Project and Primavera will be an advantage.

  • Valid Drivers licence.

Job Description

Your key deliverable as a Construction Manager / Site Manager will be to successfully plan, manage and execute civil construction projects / contracts as the senior company representative on site.

Your duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following key aspects / competencies :

  • Planning, coordinating and supervising general operations on site, including labour, plant, materials and subcontractor components,
  • Contract Administration and Contract Management,
  • Contract law and Claims with reference to the applicable General Conditions of Contract and project specification,
  • S.H.E. Management (Safety, Health & Environment)
  • Quality Assurance (development of a QA plan, implementation and compliance monitoring thereof),
  • Construction Program (development of a baseline program and resource loading,  thereafter   implementation, progress update and revision thereof),
  • Quantities Measurement and Monthly Certification of work done,
  • Cost Control & Reporting including monthly reconciliation of Actual versus Allowable costs,
  • Site Instructions & Variation Orders compilation and submission thereof,
  • Pricing and allowable / rates buildup – integral to many of the above this also forms part of a longer term goal to procure work and price tenders,
  • Client development and long term relationship building within the industry.

  • Strong people’s skills with the ability to manage, negotiate and work with all the diverse groups that may be encountered on a contract, including contractors labour, local labour, local & specialised subcontractors, business forums, community organisations, consultant and client.

  • Strong project management, planning, organizational, analytical and technical skills.
  • Strong leadership and professional skills.
  • Highly results driven and quality focus, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Information extraction and application.
  • High level of mathematical literacy and logical thought with strong analytical thinking, judgement and decision making.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and deadlines.
  • Strong computer literacy and competency, especially in Microsoft office (Excel, Word, Project, Powerpoint)
